Centre for Marine and Coastal Zone Management (CMCZM) is a research group within the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Aberdeen. The objectives of this research group are to pursue research on the application of the geospatial technologies to the coastal and marine environment. This includes the use of remote sensing for monitoring (both above and below the water surface), Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for spatial data analysis and visualisation, environmental database creation, the use of spatial data models to facilitate information access and sharing, online GIS-based Internet mapping for access to information, coastal atlases, and decision support systems (DSS), spatial modelling tools, digital mapping and cartography (including map design) and visualisation tools, and mobile data collection and mapping. We have been involved in a wide range of European funded projects including: CoastWatch, Eurosion, CoPraNET, Corepoint, ECOIMAGINE, IMCORE, NatureGIS and Nature SDI, as well as other locally funded projects.
